BC comes up short against Duke

Despite a strong effort and a late second half surge the Eagles could not overcome the Blue Devils lead.

Reggie Jackson hit a deep fade away three with a 6'10 defender in his face to bring BC within 1 point (64-63) with 16 seconds left.

BC ran the final play as planned however the execution was not there and Jackson was late with the pass to Trapani. Skinner said following the game, "Reggie held it a little too long." He was also affected by the lack of shot clock. The shot clocks were not operating all game and they had smaller screens on the floor which were not as visible to the players.

Coach Skinner also said that the sloppy execution at the end of the first allowed was ultimately "the difference in the ball game." BC fell behind by 10 points (35-25) at the break and after hanging tough for most of the first half.

To the Eagles credit they battled hard in the second half and held their own rebounding despite an obvious size disadvantage. Perhaps most impressive was the foul shooting BC exhibited down the stretch as they chipped away at the lead.

Corey Raji led BC with 15 points and 8 boards. Rakim Sanders had 13 points and one monster block on a fast break dunk by Nolan Smith which really ignited the crowd. Trapani and Jackson each had 12 and 11 points respectively.

Mickey Wiswall Pre-season all american

Boston College baseball junior Mickey Wiswall was selected to Baseball America's 2nd team pre-season All American team.

Wiswall earned the recognition as a DH although he plays some third and first base for the Eagles. Wiswall followed a strong spring for BC with an excellent stint in the Cape Cod Baseball League where he was named an all-star.

Boston College 2010 football schedule

The BC Eagles released their 2010 football schedule. Notable home games include Virginia Tech, Clemson and Notre Dame. They must travel to NC State, Florida State, Wake Forest and Duke.

I'm not sure I like the fact that BC closes out the season with a Thanksgiving weekend game at Syracuse. This is the beginning of an 8-game series with Syracuse but I'm sure most BC fans still have a bitter taste in their mouth from 2004. Boston College also has just one bye week early in the season before the Virginia Tech game.

Sep 4 -- Weber State

Sep 11 -- Kent State

Sep 25 -- Virginia Tech

Oct 2 --Notre Dame

Oct 9 -- @ NC State

Oct 16 -- @ Florida State

Oct 23 -- Maryland

Oct 30 -- Clemson

Nov 6 -- @ Wake Forest

Nov 13 -- @ Duke

Nov 20 -- Virginia

Nov 27 -- @ Syracuse

2010 Football Recruiting Class Rankings | #21. Alex Amidon

Alex Amidon WR 6'0" 175 lbs.

Strengths:
  • Appears to be a great route runner, and knows how to get open
  • Quick and shifty, good underneath option

Weaknesses:

  • Doesn't have breakaway speed
  • Not particularly big or strong
  • Not great in one on one battles

Development:

I see Amidon as Wes Welker type for BC. He's small but shifty and smart. If you watch video of him you see him constantly getting open over the middle and make the tough in traffic catches. If Amidon progresses along nicely and continues to learn how to read defenses' coverages, I think he can turn into a very nice clot receiver for BC.

Other Offers:
  • Syracuse
  • Tulane
  • 1-AA

Boston College Announces 2010 Football recruiting class

The 2010 recruiting class has come to an end this season as 21 prospective student-athletes officially signed their letters of intent to Boston College.

There were no last minute surprises or national fan fare (see Brian Toal above) regarding this year's signing day. Although the class is a little thin at the defensive line, which is a position of need moving forward, there are some quality players who could make an impact down the line. The BC coaching staff has always done a nice job of coaching up unheralded recruits and I expect this to continue with this class.

One thing to note is there is a remarkable 10 players from New England schools and 7 kids from Massachusetts alone.

We will have much more on this recruits including a ranking of them in the near future.

Eagles advance to Beanpot Finals

Boston College dominated Harvard by a score of 6-0 to advance to the finals next Monday. John Muse netted 33 saves and combined with sophomore Chris Venti for the team's first shutout of the season.

They will face a familiar foe in Boston University who defeated Northeastern 2-1. BU is not as strong a team as they were last season however, they have given BC fits this season. BU has won two of three against BC this season including the two most recent gams by scores of 3-2 and 5-4.
