Obviously this is a tough loss to swallow. I thought this was
BC's game to lose, and they certainly did not play well enough to win this one. Again the story of the game for BC was turnovers. Rich
Gunnell's fumble inside the 5 yard line was a huge mistake. Dominique Davis also committed several costly turnovers, including a fumble for a touchdown and a pick that led to another. Ball security has not been our strength all year and we once again showed this weakness. I thought the defense was only mediocre. We allowed 150 rushing yards today, way above our season average of 87 per game. We did not do a very good job of stopping the run, even when we knew it was coming. They had huge holes opening up all game. It is not often you get beat when allowing under 80 yards passing. BC was beat in the trenches yesterday both offensively and defensively. I honestly believed that this is where we would thrive against Virginia Tech, stopping their run and moving the chains with Montel Harris, but clearly this was not the case Saturday. Our offense mustered a mere 45 yards on 24 carries. The key stat from this game was 3rd down conversions. BC was 3-15 on 3rd down, an abysmal percentage. I thought coming out of halftime BC would be in great position to get back into this game. But the offense sputtered on the opening drive, a sign of things to come in the second half for the Eagles. This is a loss you can put solely on one player. We did not make enough plays to win.
